Shands HealthCare provides patients with access to a wide range of dental services, from basic cleanings to oral surgery.

University of Florida faculty physicians provide dental services to patients at the UF Craniofacial Center and Facial Pain Center. The UF Craniofacial Center specializes in orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. The Center also treats patients with cleft lips, cleft palates, or other malformations of the head and face.

Patients can also receive dental services from the UF College of Dentistry.

Regular cleanings and check-ups are very important for your dental health. Even if you are not having dental problems, it is important that you visit your dentist once or twice a year. At the time of your examination, the dentist will check the overall health of your teeth and gums, as well as check for symptoms of disease, infection, or oral cancer.

The best way to prevent plaque build-up is to brush and clean between your teeth every day. The American Dental Association recommends brushing your teeth at least twice a day and cleaning between your teeth at least once a day. You can clean between your teeth with floss or interdental cleaners, such as special brushes, picks, or sticks. When you go in for your regular check-up, your dentist or dental hygienist will remove the plaque that is left on your teeth after you brush and floss. Plaque left on teeth can lead to tooth decay or gum disease.
