Shands HealthCare provides HealthCasts covering a wide variety of general health issues. Shands HealthCare is a private, not-for-profit academic healthcare system affiliated with the University of Florida. The system consists of two academic health centers located in Gainesville and Jacksonville, a behavioral-health facility, a rehabilitation hospital, and participation in joint ventures that operate three community hospitals. The system is affiliated with more than 80 University of Florida physician practices located throughout north central and northeast Florida.

What happens when a patient leaves the hospital after a traumatic spinal cord or brain injury or debilitating disease? Typically, the patient goes through a rehabilitation program to try to restore body functions that may have been lost.
