Breastfeeding

The breastfeeding class is a one-time, two-hour class designed for mothers who want to breastfeed their newborn. This class is taught before the baby is born by a nurse who is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. It is recommended that you attend this class prior to 36 weeks of pregnancy. Topics covered include:

  • Proper techniques for breastfeeding
  • Nursing bras
  • Pumping milk when returning to work
  • Infant behavior
  • Breast changes
  • Maternal medications
  • Complications and how to avoid them

Breastfeeding support also is available for mothers after delivery during your hospital stay and for consultation on an outpatient basis after you go home.

The cost for this class is $20, but the fee can be waived in special circumstances.
