Ambulatory Care Unit

All patients who undergo surgical or invasive procedures will stay in the Ambulatory Care Unit at Shands AGH after recovering in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. In the Ambulatory Care Unit, patients receive snacks and post-procedure or post-operative instructions before being discharged or admitted to a nursing unit. The average length of stay is one hour.

The unit has 16 private rooms and six semi-private rooms equipped with recliners. In the private rooms, families can stay with the patient. Patients also have their pain managed in this unit. The Ambulatory Care Unit is open 6 am to 7 pm and is staffed by registered nurses.
