Shands at UF offers a varietyof transportation services to its patients to make parking and transportation around Gainesville easier and more convenient.

Please remember that Shands at UF located on University of Florida campus and pay attention to where you are parking. Make sure you do not park in a staff or restricted areas because these areas require a decal. Also, please do not park in the front circle at Shands at UF. This drive is intended to make patient drop-off and pick-up easy for all of our patients.

Transportation services include the following:

Shuttles

A free shuttle service picks up patients from the parking garages and rops them off at Shands at UF or the Shands Medical Plaza. Handicapped-accessible shuttle stops are made on the top of the parking garages.

Shuttles to the hospital run Monday through Friday every ten minutes from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The UF Shands Cancer Center shuttle runs Monday through Friday, every 10 minutes from 7:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. This shuttle is also available to patients at Hope Lodge and the main hospital. On request, the shuttle stops at the Ronald McDonald House and the visitor-parking garage.

Valet parking

Valet parking is available at the Shands at UF main entrance circle for $5 per day. Vehicles with a handicapped sticker cost $3 per day.

Handicapped access

Vehicles with a state-issued handicapped parking permit receive free parking spaces in the parking lot next to the west entrance of the Health Science Center complex and in the visitor and patient parking garages. Patients without the state-issued permit can request a temporary permit from a Shands at UF information center or by calling 352.265.0005 or 352.265.0111.

Wheelchairs are free for patients and visitors. To reserve a wheelchair, please call 352.265.0111 ext. 45754 at least one hour prior to your arrival.

Extended stay

If your care requires you to stay several days, please visit one of the information centers and ask for a long-term parking permit. This permit gives you free parking in the commuter lot during your extended stay. Oversized or recreational vehicles may be parked in the metered lot north of the West parking garages.

Public bus service

Gainesville's public bus service, RTS, offers transportation throughout Gainesville. Fares range from $0.50 to $1. Some passengers are eligible to ride for free.
