Heart and lung transplants
Since Florida's first adult heart
transplant in 1985, the Shands Cardiovascular Center at the
University of Florida has led the way statewide in heart and lung
transplantation. This includes the first pediatric heart transplant
in 1986, the first neonatal heart transplant in 1993, the first
adult lung transplant in 1994 and the first pediatric lung transplant
in 1996.
The
Shands Cardiovascular Center at UF offers the following
comprehensive procedures and services for heart and lung
transplant patients:

Lifetime health maintenance and management of care for
heart and lung transplant recipients

Adult heart transplantation

Pediatric/neonatal heart transplantation

Unilateral lung transplantation

Bilateral lung transplantation

Pediatric lung transplantation

Heart/lung combined transplantation

Medical management via pharmacologic therapies for patients
not suitable for transplantation

Comprehensive and multidisciplinary evaluation of disease
and treatment options
Referrals
to other appropriate services and programs available with
the Shands Cardiovascular Center at UF and the Shands enterprise.
