| Erection Problems
Most men have occasional erection problems and are not
psychologically affected by them. About 10 percent of men experience persistent
erection problems that require medical attention.
The cause of erectile dysfunction, or impotence, can be physical (related to blood
vessels or nerves), psychological (anxiety or depression), or a combination of factors.
Physical causes include illnesses, injuries or complications of surgery. Heavy drinking
and smoking are also physical risk factors.
Fortunately, many of the contributing factors respond to treatment. You and your
doctor will develop a personalized treatment plan that may include medications (such
as Viagra), counseling or other non-surgical treatments, or surgery.
