Pet Visitation

The Pet Visitation program allows volunteers to bring trained and healthy dogs into the hospital to visit patients. The program provides a positive experiences for patients, visitors and staff.

Patients are not allowed to bring in their own pets, but can enjoy visits from one of the volunteer teams. Furry visitors with wagging tails are great for stress relief.

Shands AGH’s policy allows dogs that meet certain requirements to visit patients. The dogs must have a certification from a veterinarian of their inoculations. The pet visitation dogs are recognized by their Shands AGH badges. The owner also must go through a volunteer orientation.
