Pass it On

The Pass It On community involvement project is sponsored by the Shands at the University of Florida Volunteer Services department. In March 2001, we began this program in order to share knowledge, educational backgrounds, life experiences, and hobbies and interests with children in Alachua County.

We try to improve the lives of children in our community by:

  • Mentoring elementary students
  • Reading to students
  • Assisting teachers with display boards and teaching materials
  • Organizing special events or projects
  • Donating school supplies
  • Teaching unwed girls how to cook and sew
  • Teaching job skills
  • Mentoring unwed mothers
  • Donating baby clothing

This program is sponsored by Shands at UF, Shands Hospital Auxiliary at UF and the Gainesville Women's Club.
